Vigil volunteers must me caring and compassionate people. They consider it a special privilege to care for people at the end of their lives. They must be able to maintain a calm presence for the patient and family during the last few hours of life. They are, indeed, special caregivers. Volunteers are provided with specialized training.

Description
Volunteers play an important role in the philosophy of care at AseraCare Hospice. They provide support to patients and their families that helps enhance the patient's quality of life and reduce the family's caregiving burden. Hospice volunteers may run errands, prepare light meals, stay with a patient to give family members a break, lend emotional support, provide companionship and help out with light housekeeping.
AseraCare volunteers bring a wide variety of skills and talents to our patients and families in support of our hospice team. Every hospice volunteer has something special and significant to contribute, and we welcome new ideas and contributions.
We train our volunteers in a number of areas, including listening techniques, working with families, loss and grief, and bereavement support volunteers play an important role in the philosophy of care at AseraCare Hospice. They provide support to patients and their families that helps enhance the patient's quality of life and reduce the family's caregiving burden.
