(JFSs213) After completing 9 hours of orientation and training, volunteers choose to either support a family by helping parents with time management and parenting skills or assist an older adult with companionship and socialization. Volunteers are matched by families and individuals who have requested the service. Social workers provide volunteers with supervision in order to give support and guidance for their volunteer efforts. Volunteers meet as a group monthly to enhance their interventions. Families throughout Somerset County are served; volunteers indicate their geographic preferences. Minimum age of 20. Criminal background check, arranged and paid for by the agency, is required.

Description
VMC provides volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups of all ages through our affiliation with over 500 not-for-profits, schools and government entities. VMC goes beyond matching to educating volunteers. Professional development is offered to volunteer managers, agency boards, and individuals wishing to serve on a not-for-profit board of directors. Business partnerships enable us to assist them in planning and executing volunteer projects. In addition, outreach and senior services are offered through friendly visiting and telephone reassurance programs.
