ORGANIZATION: National MS Society - Greater Carolinas Chapter

Gain work experience or earn academic credit while working with a dynamic non-profit team! The Public Policy Intern works directly with the Vice President of Public Policy for the two Chapters of the National MS Society in North and South Carolina.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Attend pertinent committee meetings, public hearings, and coalition meetings as assigned.
  • Track, analyze and report on SC state policy and budget to Government Relations Committee.
    • Arrange meetings with legislators and staff members - GRC, chapter staff, clients.
    • Assist in coordinating response campaign.
  • Highlight identified policy priorities for posting to MS Policy Blog.
  • Arrange Governmental Relations conference calls and meetings.
    • Assist in developing agenda
    • Prepare minutes
  • Interact with local advocacy leaders to develop collaborative relationships.
  • Draft articles on public policy for MS Connection newsletter.
  • Assist in scheduling local advocacy contacts with local and state representatives.
  • Recruit advocacy volunteers.

Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in undergraduate course work or a graduate program.
  • Prefer major coursework in Public Policy, Pre-law, Political Science, Public Administration, or Social Work.

Unpaid Internship; full or part-time schedule available (within regular business hours - Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm).

The Greater Carolinas Chapter, with offices located in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Charlotte, NC, serves over 18,000 individuals affected by MS in North and South Carolina. We help each person address the challenges of living with MS and raise funds for MS research. Our vision is a World Free of MS!
