During an emergency, local emergency service agencies, hospitals, and other healthcare organizations may not have the resources to care for an increased number of patients and may need to rely on healthcare volunteers for assistance. The San Luis Obispo County Medical Reserves Corps (SLOMRC) is a group of trained volunteers who assist public health efforts during times of special need or disaster, such as during a major communicable disease outbreak, earthquake, flood, tsunami, or act of terrorism. SLOMRC supplements the resources of the local community emergency medical response system and augments staff shortages. SLOMRC also supports public health needs throughout the year by assisting with community health promotion and education.
