We LOVE our VOLUNTEERS!

Seeking volunteers who enjoy "playing in the dirt!" With events most every Saturday afternoon we would welcome your help in making the gardens look the best possible. Some of the Saturday tasks may include mulching, weeding, raking of pathways, watering, pruning, dead heading (the removal of spent flowers), using blower to clear road and walkways and more. If this sounds like your idea of a great way to spend your Saturday morning, please get in touch. Thank you!

Mission Statement

To open the eyes of all Americans to the vital connection between people and plants, to inspire all Americans to become responsible caretakers of the Earth, to celebrate America's diversity through the art and science of horticulture; and to lead this effort by sharing the Society's unique national resources with all Americans.

Description

Founded in 1922, the American Horticultural Society (AHS) is one of the oldest member-based national gardening organizations in North America. Our headquarters at River Farm in Alexandria, Virginia, is a national showcase for environmentally responsible gardening practices.

We have more than 20,000 members, including home gardeners, garden club members, professional horticulturists, educators, and Master Gardeners. We advocate earth-friendly gardening practices, promote plant-based education for children, recognize leaders in American gardening, and showcase the art and science of horticulture. We also produce a bi-monthly magainze, The American Gardener.

In addition to our full-time staff, we rely on dedicated volunteers who give their time and talents to the organization.
