Safety. Stability. Success.

By tutoring English as a Second Language (ESL), setting up an apartment for a newly-arriving refugee family, providing MARTA orientations, conducting mock interviews, working with our afterschool program, or simply welcoming a refugee and their family to the Atlanta area by introducing them to their new city, dedicated volunteers like you provide key tools for refugees to have a successful resettlement journey.

We have volunteer opportunities in our resettlement, youth/education, employment, and social adjustment departments. E-mail cathy@rrisa.org to learn more, or check our website www.rrisa.org to find out about upcoming volunteer orientations.

Mission Statement

Refugee Resettlement and Immigration Services of Atlanta (RRISA)'s mission to heal and rebuild the lives of displaced and uprooted people. Our vision is that refugee families will become stable, financially independent, and productive members of the community, while preserving the ethnic and cultural identity that supports their dignity and self-esteem.

Description

RRISA, formerly the Christian Council of Metropolitan Atlanta Refugee Ministries, was established as a resettlement agency in 1977. To date, we have resettled more than 14,000 refugees from 29 countries. RRISA was incorporated separately in 2002 to operate the refugee program and became a fully independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit in March 2003. Governed by a strong and active 13-member board, in the past five years RRISA has achieved significant planned growth to realize our vision of delivering comprehensive services to newly arrived refugees and immigrants. We have developed from a small office of four to a professionally trained, ethnically and culturally diverse staff of 39, representing 15 countries and 25 languages.

RRISA is an affiliate of Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM) and Church World Service (CWS), two of the ten national refugee resettlement agencies authorized by the U.S. State Department to resettle refugees of humanitarian concern. Since our incorporation as an independent agency, we have grown to become one of the largest resettlement agencies in metro Atlanta with a multicultural staff. Through four core service programs, RRISA provides comprehensive services to help refugee families become self-sufficient and obtain long-term success.
