The purpose of this position is to mentor teens all across the Northwest Indiana region. We have sites at the following locations:
- Chesterton: Duneland YMCA
- East Chicago: Boys and Girls Club (BGC)
- Gary: John Will Anderson BGC
- Hammond: BGC
- Lake Station: BGC
- Merrillville Intermediate School: BGC
- Michigan City High School: Cafe Read a Latte
We are reaching our teens through building relationships and connecting with them in a way that will allow us to make a positive impact in their lives. As a mentor, you will equip, empower, and encourage the teens to make healthy choices. Discussion and lesson topics include:
- Goal Setting
- Recognizing and Appreciating Self-Value
- Relationships:
- What does a healthy relationship look like?
- What is relationship violence?
- Been there done that/now what?
- Building a Legacy

Rallies- We reach out to these teen to show them an alternative to going out and party. During the rallies we have guest speakers, we rock out to bands, observe skits and drama about life issues that are going on with our youth in this generation, we also, have food, games, and many other things to do. All of this goes back to our mission statement on how we want to better equip the teens of this generation to live healthy lives.
American Teens in Crisis Tour- A Positive Approach to Teen Health does this one-hour tour to try to get what we as an organization are doing to help equip other youth of this generation. We are inviting the community to come and see first hand what we are doing to help this generation, and give us there feedback.
Professional Seminars- We have health teachers, nurses, parents, and many other professionals that are involved with the youth of this generation come and sit in on an all-day workshop. We talk about everything from a child going through puberty to talking about sex and abstinence.
Assembly Speakers- A Positive Approach to Teen Health have speakers come in from all over the country. They come and go into schools that we teach in, and give a presentation. We have had speakers such as Keith Deltano, Rashida Jolley, Adan Madrigal, Jammal Lee, Bryce Drew and many others who have reached this generation’s youth.
