Tutors with The Legacy Center for Community Success, Literacy Services open up a whole new world for their learning partners. Reading changes lives.
Training to be a literacy tutor is provided free of charge. It includes an orientation of the Literacy Services' adult and children’s programs, information on the special needs of adult learners, and lesson-planning materials. Workshop participants will choose between learning how to teach the Barton Reading and Spelling System to children and adults who are struggling readers or learning more traditional tutoring methods so that they can work with adult basic education and English as a Second Language learners.
"Our tutors really do change the world," Jennifer Heronema, chief executive officer of The Legacy Center for Community Success, said. "Literacy is about empowerment and helping people to achieve their own personal goals as employees, parents, and citizens."
A three-hour-per-week time commitment (broken up into at least two sessions) is required. If you are interested in this meaningful volunteer opportunity, call Kristi or Tina at 989-496-1425 to reserve a spot at the training workshop.
