Mission Statement

TIME'S UP! educates people about the environmental impacts of everyday purchases. We focus on transportation issues in New York City and have been instrumental in involving cyclists and skaters in large, mobile actions.

Description

TIME'S UP! is a grassroots environmental group that has been working on environmental issues for 27 years. Educational outreach and direct action are the two most important aspects of TIME'S UP! We hold more than 100 free outdoor and indoor events each year. Our campaigns range from saving community gardens to promoting non-polluting transportation. In 2012, Time's Up! partnered with the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space (Morus) in lower east side of Manhattan, which archives the history of the community and gardens, advocating community engagement and sustainable urban design.

My volunteer experience at this museum has been extremely disappointing. I worked at the front desk for two days, and the director communicated in a highly disrespectful and rude manner, lacking patience, both in person and through email. The so-called volunteer training is virtually non-existent; information is only provided when you happen to ask for it. On my first day, someone donated a historical photograph, but no volunteer knew how to handle it appropriately. Additionally, there are no designated spaces at the front desk to manage such donations. The document management here is in complete disarray; if you need to edit a document, it's either a frustrating search through a chaotic pile of files or starting from scratch. While the history represented by this museum is remarkable, it appears that its excellence lies solely in its past. I have doubts about whether this history can be appropriately preserved going forward.
