Volunteers put the heart in hospice.

At Amity Care Hospice, we depend on our hospice volunteers to help us provide the extra love and care our patients and families need at this time in their lives. There are many ways to volunteer with hospice. Be sure to speak with our Director of Volunteers to see how you might help. In the meantime, here is a list of some ways volunteers can help:

Companionship. Volunteers offer support, companionship and practical caring help to our families and our patients by simply visiting and chatting with them or offering to sit with a patient so the family can have a much needed break.

Whether running errands, sitting with a patient so the family can take a much needed break, reading to patients, or holding their hand, the help and support our volunteers give is an essential part of hospice.

Special skills/talents. Perhaps you have talents you could offer like musicianship, organizing, gardening or yard work. Perhaps you are a hairdresser, manicurist, or you have some other unique talents. We work to meet our volunteers' needs and desires to grow while serving.

Below we have listed some of the special projects that incorporate volunteers:

Join our "Remembering" Team.

  1. Commemorating Lives. This team is involved in commemorating the life of our patients by recording interviews and combining them with photographs that celebrate the life of our patients. If you have good interviewing skills or you are good with making CDs or DVDs, this is your team!
  2. Celebrating Lives. This team can also help organize and implement our Celebration of Life bereavement services.

Join our Craft Team. Our marketers work with seniors in Assisted Living Facilities doing arts and crafts. If you love to bead, play bingo, play games, make holiday crafts, then join our Craft Team.

Join our Administrative Team. Perhaps you love to organize, file, or handle other administrative tasks. In hospice, there is so much paperwork to do that we love volunteers who are willing to dive in and help get the job done whether it is answering phones, putting marketing packets together, initiating follow-up phone calls for families who have experienced a loss etc.

How much time do you need to spend volunteering? As a Amity Care Hospice volunteer, you can donate as much or as little of your time as you desire. This flexibility allows each volunteer to find an area of service that is uniquely suited to their gifts, skills, talents, and abilities and all while experiencing great personal satisfaction.

Call 678.402.5235 or email volunteer@amitycarehospice.com for more information.

NOTE: We recommend those grieving the recent death of a loved one delay volunteering for a year.

About Amity Care Hospice

Mission Statement

Our mission is to respect the inherent value of patients and families dealing with a life limiting illness; to provide holistic care that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit; to honor their choices; and to promote peace in the midst of transition.

Description

Who We Serve

Amity Care Hospice, cares for those faced with a life-limiting illness, which may include a wide variety of end stage diseases including advanced cardiac disorders, advanced respiratory disorders, cancer, end stage Alzheimer's, and many others. We also serve the families of our patients, recognizing they are in need of support when facing the loss of a loved one.

We do this regardless of our patient's ability to pay, and without regard to race, color, religions, age, sex, handicap (mental or physical), gender preference, and/or place of origin. These are hospice standards.

Because family is one of our core values, our Amity Care staff cares for our patients and families with the same tenderness, love, and compassion we would members of our own family. We recognize transition as a sacred moment in time and work to maintain it so that our families might experience peace in the midst of transition.

Where We Serve

Many think that hospice is a place. In reality, it is a philosophy of care offered those facing a life limiting illness. Amity Care Hospice cares for those faced with a life-limiting illness in the comfort of their own home whether that is in a private residence, assisted living or skilled nursing facility, personal care home, or boarding home.

While Amity Care Hospice's office is located in Marietta, Ga our service area is a 50 mile radius from the center point.
