The Discovery Center One (DC1) is designed to be a hands-on educational environment where visitors of all ages are in charge of what they learn and experience. We focus on the physical and cognitive needs of children, up to early school years, and their adult companions. Individual visitors are encouraged to use their unique learning abilities and desires to create knowledge. There are no content-based objectives that the visitors must learn when exploring the space. The DC1 allows the visitor to gain insights by exploring real objects and working models. Our goal is to foster the development of science thinking skills- including observing, classifying, hypothesizing and experimenting- and skills related to technological literacy- including setting goals, planning, using tools and working both independently and cooperatively.

The docent's role is to guide visitors through their exploration of the resources. Through interactions with real objects and conversations with docents, visitors develop an understanding of themselves and the world around them based on the experiences they choose. The DC1 also helps adults to practice their own observing, thinking and explaining skills, in order to understand how children learn about science and engineering.
