VOLUNTEER IN YOUR CHOSEN AREA OF RHODE ISLAND! BECOME A CERTIFIED VOLUNTEER OMBUDSMAN. Training is provided and held at a time and location that is convenient to you!

This is a state-wide program, with 89 nursing homes and 62 assisted living facilities, volunteers are needed to serve in all cities and towns throught the state Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman is housed in The Alliance for Better Long Term Care. As such, we advocate for residents living in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and those receiving licensed hospice or home care services. Certified Volunteer Ombudsman would advocate, educate, and mediate to help resolve issues brought to their attention. As an ideal candidate one should exhibit a desire to support and encourage residents to use their own voices as well as advocate for them if they are unable to. Volunteers cannot be currently working in a nursing home, assisted living facility or for a home care or hospice agency. Previous employment in any of these settings is OK. BCI required. Description

As a Volunteer Ombudsman you will be appointed to a long term care facility that you will visit regularly to advocate on behalf of the residents. You will mediate between the resident and the staff to resolve issues such as neglect, abuse, quality of life, guardianship, POA, dignity, autonomy, etc. Residents who may have no family to watch out for them or may be afraid to speak up for themselves will benefit from your involvement.
