ORGANIZATION: Goodwill SWPA

Goodwill's Youth Mentoring program is looking for adult volunteer mentors to work with youth ages 9-17, once a week, in small group setting at various sites in greater Pgh area.

Volunteers should be positive role models who are willing to listen to youth talk about their daily lives and challenges, be non-judgemental, open and accepting. There is also a need for bi-lingual Spanish speaker mentors !

Curriculum for this program includes:

  • FUN STUFF-games & activities
  • Digital Photography
  • Music exploration
  • Financial literacy
  • Career Development
  • Job Shadowing
  • Social Skills
  • Career Exploration
  • Listening!

Mentors should be:

  • Willing to spend 2 hours, once a week with the youth
  • Attend mentor training(s)
  • Be willing to submit to background check
    • Be aged 21 and above to be a Mentor
    • Agree to a 1 year committment

If the mentor is from the business community and able to share insight into the working world and help youth discover career opportunities. The mentor could:

  • Be willing to talk about their work
  • Be willing to share some of the hurdles to get to where they are
  • Be willing to discuss possible career paths for the youth
  • Possibly be willing to set up some job shadowing
