Respite Care Volunteers work with the Hospice staff to offer physical and emotional support to hospice patients and may provide respite for the primary care person. A Volunteer offers personal care services, household support, socialization and assistance in accomplishing projects of the patient's interest.

Pet Partners Therapy Animal Volunteer Team: A visiting Pet Partners therapy animal team, for safety reasons, will provide casual animal-assisted activities (AAA), otherwise known as "meet and greet" activities. It is not the role of the therapy animal team to assist or care for the patient’s physical needs (examples: moving the patient to a comfortable position; feeding the patient).

Pet Peace of Mind Volunteers work with the Hospice staff to provide extra support to the patient/family by offering care and assistance with their pet(s). Pet Peace of Mind volunteers might provide services such as walking the pet, delivering pet food or litter, assisting with cleaning and grooming or other pet related errands as assigned.

Massage Therapy Volunteers work with the Hospice Staff to offer physical and emotional support to hospice patients through massage.

Program Support Volunteers with Hospice act on the direction of the Supervisor Community Services or another Hospice staff member to provide assistance with office functions and special projects.

Vigil Volunteers work with the hospice staff to bring comfort and companionship to patients and their family members or facility staff during the time immediately prior to the patient’s death. The Vigil Volunteer is assigned specifically for situations where the hospice nurse or social worker recommends the presence of the Vigil Volunteer.

Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement captures the love, purpose, and empathy that the Sisters of Providence imbued into Providence from Day One, and which we all carry forth to the here and now. And we want to emphasize that we at Providence simultaneously honor our deep and beloved Catholic roots while also embracing communities from all walks of life, with individuals with all identities. People of color, LGBTQ communities, people with disabilities, and other minorities and marginalized communities are not only tolerated and accepted, but embraced in our growing and evolving tapestry of diversity. Our Mission Statement references God’s healing love. Maybe, for you, this equates to the healing love possible in the human spirit, regardless of your spiritual beliefs. Our Mission Statement talks about the ministry of Jesus. Maybe your alignment is with Buddha, or Krishna, or Nature - these ministries of all shapes and sizes are part of our journey together here at Providence.

Description

Hospice is expert, compassionate care provided to those with advanced illnesses where cure is no longer a realistic goal. The Providence Hospice team sees each person and family as unique and strives to provide quality end-of-life care as they face their journey with comfort and dignity. Hospice care is patient-directed and interdisciplinary, with physician, nurse, social worker, home health aide, and volunteer working collaboratively together to care for the patient. Hospice care is provided in a patient's home, whether that home is a private residence or a residential facility. Providence Hospice provides compassionate, thoughtful care to our patients and families with respect to their culture, religion, values, and beliefs.
