Description

THE BIG IMPACT
I will make a difference in my community.
Middle Tennessee's youth are making decisions right now that will affect education, public safety, and community health today and in the future. It's a big responsibility. They could use a little help.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is changing the way kids grow up in Middle Tennessee. Through one-to-one mentoring services, our volunteers are empowering youth ages 6-16 with the tools, confidence, and guidance to make decisions that will affect their safety, their well-being, and their potential. It's a social profit enterprise that requires investment from individuals -- whether time, talent, or treasure -- to make a powerful community impact.

Better Schools
Kids with a mentor are 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class, and more likely to graduate. Along the way, they'll influence the kids around them, creating stronger schools, higher graduation rates, and a generation of more productive young adults.

Safer Neighborhoods
Kids with a mentor are 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs. And mentors especially influence minority children -- they're 70% less likely to use illegal drugs when they have a positive mentor in their lives. And overall, kids with a mentor are one-third less likely to engage in a violent act. That makes all our neighborhoods safer.

Healthier Choices
Kids with a mentor are 27% less likely to use alcohol than those without. A positive mentor can keep a child from smoking, help them make healthier eating and activity choices, and give them the guidance to avoid risky behavior and dramatic consequences.
