About KEVS FOUNDATION INC

Location:

Mission Statement

The goal of KEVS Foundation is to educate and help prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in children and young adults.

Description

Vision

KEVS Foundation facilitates FREE youth heart screenings, helps to provide program resources for public access defibrillator programs, and teaches the importance of early bystander CPR/AED education and awareness in our communities.

Kevin's Story

Everyone who knew, or had an opportunity to meet Kevin, knew he lived his life and played with a "Big Heart." Unfortunately on July 11, 2011, this physical "big heart" took our son, brother, grandson, and friend from this earth. What we later discovered is that Kevin actually had a condition called "Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)." He had experienced no symptoms. According to the Center for Disease Control, 5,000 young people between 15 and 34 years of age die annually from "Sudden Cardiac Arrest." The leading cause of death is HCM, an abnormally enlarged heart muscle.

With this new knowledge, KEVS Foundation will sponsor cardiac screenings for young people in our community. Each screening will include an EKG, Height and Weight measurements, review of family history, blood pressure check, education on CPR and AED information. The value of each screening is approximately $3,000.

All screenings are FREE of charge with a request of a donation based on financial ability. Donations from these screenings will go towards purchasing AEDs for our communities.
