Description: Help seniors gain the skills and confidence to avoid falls. From the National Council on Aging: "A Matter of Balance is an 8-week structured group intervention that emphasizes practical strategies to reduce fear of falling and increase activity levels. Participants learn to view fall and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and exercise to increase strength and balance."
About Us: East Side Elders helps our seniors live full and rewarding lives - in the home and community they want - for as long as possible and as healthy and well as possible. Our teams of volunteers, students and community members provide a wide range of services and activities that give the necessary support and resources to our elderly neighbors wherever they call home.
Hours: Classes will be scheduled weekly, according to the volunteer’s schedule
Commitment: Volunteers must complete a two day training (Tuesday, August 22, 2017 - 8:30 am - 3:30 pm and Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - 8:30 am - 3:30 pm ).
Qualifications:
Must pass a background check
Must complete 14 hour training and any other requirements before teaching classes.
Able to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds in a caring, courteous manner
At least 18 years old
