If you are chosen you will serve as a volunteer in the Lieutenant Governor's Office on Aging's Friendly Visitor Program. You will be the connection between our community and the individuals who live in long term care environments. Volunteers will visit different care facilities such as Independent Living Communities, Assisted living, Residential Care, Continuing Care Communities, and Nursing Homes. As volunteer you will visit a facility that’s near you.
You will make a critical difference in the quality of life of the people you serve.
Some of your responsibilities as a volunteer include:
- Visit residents in facilities as assigned or make friendly visits to facilities as directed 2-4 hours per week.
- Empower residents and their families to advocate on behalf of the resident.
- Advocate for the residents by addressing resident rights with appropriate facility staff.
- Function as a resource to residents and families.
- Report any suspected, alleged, or actual cases of abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the Regional Ombudsmen’s office as required by law.
