Volunteering as a family is something special you can all do together to teach your children to think larger than themselves and care for others. Families that volunteer together build respect and appreciation for eachother and their community.

Besides the benefit of modeling charitable outreach in your community for your children, parents engaging with their children in service together offers these positive outcomes:

• Kids cultivate positive values, such as caring, empathy, and commitment.
• Kids feel a sense of real purpose, as well as learn new skills in the process.
• Parents get to spend quality time with their children in a positive environment, while serving as role models, leading by example and passing on important values.
• Families increase their sense of cohesion, well-being, and connections to the broader community.
• The multi-generational approach means everything needed to make meaningful change in the community is present: energy, creativity, passion, knowledge and experience, as well as the perspective of youth.

We are looking to engage a family in the life of a hospice patient; inviting your family to "adopt a patient for life." We encourage creative, brainstorming as a family to develop a personalized plan to comfort and care for your new "family member." Children can draw pictures, send letters, or make phone calls to brighten their day. Teens may be able to knit blankets, make quilts or activity lap blankets, or run errands. Companionship visits are reserved for adults only, following completion of training. Special projects are another wonderful way that a family can work together to enhance the life of their person; helping someone write a bucket list and coordinating the achievement of that goal, planting a beautiful garden for them to enjoy, baking and delivering their favorite treat are all ways a family can collectively make a difference!
