Purpose: To encourage and provide the opportunity for residents to recall, reminisce and share their meaningful life stories
Requirements:
- Knowledgeable and proficient in interviewing and listening to others
- Understanding of older adults possible cognitive and sensory limitations
- Obtain written permission of the resident or guardian for the use of any recording equipment
- Understand the operation and use of recording/computer equipment
- Maintain any written or verbal recordings in complete confidence
- The project content is understood to be the sole property of the resident and his/her designees and is not intended for any other use.
Responsibilities:
- Sign in and out in the volunteer log every visit
- Educate the resident on the purpose and the process of the information gathering
- Allow the resident to share only what they are comfortable in sharing
- Take notes and review what was understood to be shared with biographer
- Coordinate with site staff regarding any needs for equipment
- Maintain the privacy of residents and do not disclose confidential information entrusted to you during the course of your work
- Discuss with staff any observations or recommendations with regard to this activity
- Notify your supervisor immediately with any injury, fall, change in condition or concern about any resident- assist with incident report as necessary
Time Commitment:
- On-going series of visits established between the autobiographer and biographer fitting each individual’s schedule
