Make a real difference in someone's life!

Elara Caring, one of the nation's largest providers of home-based care, is looking for compassionate volunteers willing to donate their time to provide exceptional end-of-life care to local hospice patients and their families.

Volunteers are needed to visit with patients and engage them in activities such as playing music, singing, working on a craft project, playing games, or simply providing companionship by lending a hand to hold. Volunteers can sometimes provide respite care, allowing family members to take a much needed break.

The following volunteer positions are open:

  • Companionship- Companionship Volunteers visit patients in local nursing facilities or in private homes. They play cards/games, watch TV, read to the patient, or simply provide conversation and a hand to hold.
  • Office Admin (Des Plaines, IL)- Office Volunteers assist office staff with mailing, filing, data entry, and other special projects.
  • Pet Therapy (dogs only)- Pet Therapy Volunteers will visit patients at local nursing facilities, or private homes. Patients enjoy the affection from a four-legged friend and appreciate the companionship. In order to volunteer, you must have your own dog who is a certified through Therapy Dogs International, West Michigan Therapy Dogs, or Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs
  • Musical Volunteer- If you love to sing or play an instrument, you can share music with a hospice patient in a local nursing facility or patient's home. This opportunity is especially appealing to music lovers and music therapy students.

Hours are very flexible. Volunteers can choose to lend their time on weekdays, evenings, or weekends. Typically we ask that you visit your assigned patient/work in the office for 1-2 hours per week.

For more information, contact Kasey at kallison@elara.com. Thank you for your consideration and valued time in choosing Elara Caring. We appreciate our volunteers. We are looking forward to meeting you soon.
