About The Hugs Project

Location:

7000 Crossroad's Blvd., Suite 1048, Oklahoma City, OK 73149, US

Mission Statement

The Hugs Project is dedicated to improving life for the awesome U.S. Military.

Our mission is to give a "hug" (handmade items for warmth or cooling depending on season) to every American serving in the Middle East. We want every deployed troop and civilian to know we support their mission to protect our freedoms & to provide freedom to the people of the Middle East. This is our way of saying "Thank you, we appreciate you for the difficult job you do".

Description

The Hugs Project is a great group of people nationwide who are sewing and sending needed items to our young troops in the "sandbox". We have already sent out over 155,000 homemade "hugs". Most of the items already sent by us have been used and now need replaced or else the people we've sent to have come home and others have taken their place. They need a never-ending supply and it's like starting from scratch each day.

They will soon be dealing with triple digit heat. Last year it was 130+ in the Middle East. Our Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors and Marines stationed on the ground sometimes die of heat stroke but that doesn't have to happen...with your help.

In summer months, we make cool ties (hugs) and helmet coolers (kisses). They are simple to make but the benefits are dramatic. They can lower body temperatures by up to 5 degrees in summer. They can also be heated in winter to make reusable hand/pocket warmers.

In the winter, we crochet, knit, loom and sew warm black hats and neckwarmers. We also make colorful hats, flat bears and Ziploc goody bags that our service members can share with the children of the Middle East. When our troops make friends of the kids, sometimes they pass along useful info that can save American lives. How powerful is that?

Maybe you have a loved one serving in the desert but even if not, please consider if it were your son or daughter over there, your husband, wife or grandchild. How good would you feel if a group of strangers wanted to give them a "hug" and say, "we appreciate your service to our country"?

We need more people making and sending out "hugs" to our troops. Right now we're working to outfit military members in one unit who are in the midst of the Sunni Triangle. They need a morale booster in the worst way. If you think you might be interested in learning more about how you can help, please send an email to: thehugsproject@cox.net and you'll be sent all the information. Each person is funding their own efforts, buying their own material and postage. These hugs cost less than $1 each to construct and mail and our military members in the Middle East appreciate them SO much.

Thank you for taking time to read this message. Would you consider joining The Hugs Project? Maybe some of them will be able to help but they won't even know about it, unless you help us spread the word.

Materials needed include desert colored 100% cotton fabric, polymer crystals, sewing machine and thread, yarn, knitting needles, etc. and a big heart for our young American military members. If someone has these things, they can help make a difference in the lives of some of America's finest men and women serving in harm's way. Thank you.

TheHugsProject.net...because every American Service Member deserves a 'hug' from a grateful nation.
