Ecumen Hospice believes that, unless desired, no one should die alone. The vigil volunteer works directly with patients and families by providing specialized comfort and support tailored to each patient’s needs in their final days and hours. This may include reading, singing, or simply offering company to patients as they pass. By being available, vigil volunteers can also offer respite to caregivers, giving them peace of mind that someone is present while they are unable to be by their loved one’s side. Vigil volunteers also extend support to family members and friends that are present at the time of death.

Vigil volunteers serve on an on-call, as-needed basis. Typically 2-6 hours per vigil visit.

Location: We serve patients in their residence, which may include private homes, skilled nursing, assisted living, or independent living facilities. Many of our patients live in Ecumen owned or managed communities. Positions are available in the Central Metro (Hennepin, Ramsey, and Washington Counties), North Metro (Anoka, Chisago and Isanti Counties), and South Metro (Dakota County, S Ramsey County and S Washington Counties). **Our current highest need in the North Metro is Chisago City and North Branch.
