Hospice volunteers are very special people who provide support and companionship and assist in our offices and hospice houses. Hospice is about living life to the fullest, and assisting patients and families at this special time is rewarding and fulfilling! Patients live in their own homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities or hospice houses. There are a variety of opportunities to choose from based on your area(s) of interest, schedule and special gifts.
Volunteer opportunities:
- Patient companionship, friendly visitation, providing the caregiver a needed break, running errands
- Veteran to Veteran program (veterans vists other veterans who are patients)
- Pet visitation
- Specialty services (spiritual care, dining assistance, etc).
- Phone calls to patients
- Professional services (massage, hair cuts or styling)
- Hospice House Greeters - Lakeland, Auburndale, Sebring
- Office assistance- mailings, filing, making copies, reception desk, etc.
- Children's Grief Center support groups and Camp Brave Heart
- Ambassadors bureau (representing Good Shepherd Hospice at health fairs and speaking in the community).
Volunteers receive comprehensive training before being matched with patients or any assignment. No previous experience in the medical field is necessary. Days and times are flexible and every role is valued.

Description
Hospice care allows those no longer seeking curative treatment to die in comfort and peace, and in control of their surroundings, with supportive care extending to the entire family network. Good Shepherd Hospice provides care to almost half of all those who die in our communities, serving Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties. Care is based on medical need without regard to race, age, ability to pay, creed, gender, lifestyle, or illness. As a non-profit organization, we are able to provide charitable care through generous donations and the special care that our volunteers provide.
