AccentCare has numerous patients in Assisted Living Facilities and patients in their personal homes in the Gainesville and Cumming area who need caring people to visit with them.

AccentCare Hospice Friendly Visitors are an integral part of the hospice team. They have the opportunity to make a profound difference in the quality of life for individuals who are facing a terminal illness.

Friendly Visitors or Direct Patient Care Volunteers enrich the lives of patients by providing emotional support and companionship for the patient and their families. Volunteers can help in various ways through compassionate listening, reading, listening to music, making crafts, helping patients make a legacy project, watching movies, and more. Volunteers also help bring comfort to the family by being an understanding presence.

Since Friendly Visitors have direct patient contact will need to complete AccentCare Volunteer Training, have a valid driver’s license, successfully pass a background check, and complete a TB Test. Background checks and TB Tests are paid for by Accentcare. Volunteers need to be 18 years or older.

Mission Statement

Reimaging care, together to transform healthcare -- and our patients' lives -- for the better.

Description

Hospice volunteers both give and receive many benefits from joining our program.

Volunteers set their own levels of commitment and travel based on their available time and the needs of our patients. Volunteers serve our adult patients of all ages who live within the metro Atlanta area.

Volunteer selection begins with an application and interview where potential volunteers may express their personal goals, availability, interests, and talents.

Volunteers are carefully screened through a criminal background check, motor vehicle report, and personal references.

Direct Care Volunteers help by providing comfort, support, care, and compassion to our patients and their family members, and are required to participate in initial hospice volunteer training as well as basic orientation.

Indirect Care Volunteers help by providing administrative assistance on special projects that enhance the work of our staff and support patients, families and the efforts of the teams in the field. Indirect Care Volunteers receive basic orientation, training specific to task undertaking, and are encouraged to attend initial hospice volunteer training.

Additional support meetings and educational opportunities are offered throughout the year as well as ongoing personal support and social gatherings.
