One of our active volunteers on a hospice visit

Kaiser Permanente hospice volunteers who have certified pet-assisted therapy animals to visit patients currently on Kaiser Permanente Hospice service. These companionship visits have the goal of enhancing patients’ psychosocial well-being through safe animal contact. It is not the role of the pet-assisted therapy team to assist or care for a patient’s physical needs or be involved in any therapeutic practice involving therapeutic outcomes. Certified Pet-Assisted Therapy Volunteers and pet assisted therapy dogs will visit patients living in facilities only. Certification must be obtained and current through an organization such as Pet Partners.

Volunteer trainings will be held in Winter, Spring and Fall, 2024.

About Kaiser Permanente Hospice

Mission Statement

Kaiser Permanente Hospice provides compassionate, patient-centered end-of-life care at the end of life. The focus of care is to promote quality of life, ease suffering, honor dignity, respect choices and support grieving. Hospice is a supportive approach to end-of-life care that emphasizes control of pain and other symptoms, as well as providing emotional, spiritual and psychological support to enable patients to spend their remaining life in dignity and comfort. Our staff work closely with the attending physicians, family, and loved ones to ensure that the patient's community needs are met. Hospice services are provided in the patient's home, regardless of location. It may be a private residence, an assisted living community, an adult care home or a residential or intermediate care community. We are honored to be invited to your patient's home at such a sacred time. We will do all we can to help the patients and family make the most of every day.
