"As a Joy Giver I have the opportunity to work beyond my own challenges and limitations and contribute to improve the quality of life for another." - Gina Marie Erickson
Joy Givers provide social musical visits to older adults in individual settings at skilled nursing facilities, in-person or virtually. Joy Givers engage seniors in singing songs, basic rhythm activities, listen to live or recorded music, and just talk about musical preferences and experiences. Volunteers need not be musicians to benefit older adults who need special care within their communities.
Joy Givers are:
- At least 18 years of age (Jr. Joy Giver program also offered)
- Able to complete all required Joy Giver training
- Able to volunteer minimum of four hours per month for at least one year
- Supportive and eager to share comfort and joy through music
- Willing to facilitate vocal and instrumental experiences with others
- Passionate about providing social musical visits to older adult populations
Resounding Joy provides Joy Giver training with the expectation that volunteers who graduate training will utilize the musical tools they learn by helping seniors within their communities on a voluntary basis. They understand the differences between their training and becoming a board certified music therapist; they do not claim to be a music therapist.

Mission Statement
Resounding Joy enhances the human experience through the therapeutic use of music.
Description
Resounding Joy enhances the human experience with therapeutic applications of music. We uplift individuals and families with challenging conditions, help them achieve their goals, and support health and wellness throughout the community.
Our music therapists are highly-trained professionals who, after graduating with an approved degree in music therapy, complete a 1,200-hour internship and a challenging national board certification test. Music therapists’ education encompasses biology, psychology, and neurology, as well as training in voice, guitar, piano, percussion, and often other instruments to accommodate various evidence-based interventions.
We offer our powerful and cost-effective music therapy services through three main programs:
- Healing Notes - music therapy to support children in medical care
- Sounds of Service - music therapy to assist military rehabilitation
- Community Connections - music therapy for all
The Resounding Joy vision is to expand international awareness and to increase access to the power of music for recreational and therapeutic purposes.
