We will be making improvements to our community gardens, including expanding ADA access with the addition of mobi-mats and raised beds. The garden is not currentlyADA accessible. Additionally, the organization plans to create a senior citizen garden or section of and existing garden, which is greatly needed in the community.
The goals and objectves of the program are to make the garden available to all members of the community, including persons with disabilities and senior members of the community. To strengthen community involvement; increase use of garden year round; provide healthy nutrition; provide healthy food; reconnect people with the land and protect our environment; improve the health and well-being of both the community; promote exercise; increase fruit and vegetable intake and phusical activity; and strengthen social networks in the school community.
The community has expressed the need for a garden that will serve our disabled and senior population. Specifically, higher planters are needed to save the back of most seniors; by installing raised garden beds that are 8 inches above the ground all members of our population will be able to participate equally.
