Get Up & Go is a program of the Peninsula Jewish Community Center in Foster City.

Find room in your heart to help seniors who have trouble getting to medical appointments or shopping because they no longer drive. Volunteers use their own cars to take non-driving older adults to medical, dental, and personal appointments, or for errands such as banking or food and other shopping.
Rides are available throughout San Mateo County except coastside.

Qualifications/Skills: Must enjoy working with people. Volunteers need to be patient and have a positive attitude about working with seniors. Awareness of client safety is essential. Previous experience with seniors is a plus. Volunteer needs to have email and/or voicemail.

Volunteers must attend a pre-service interview and complete a registration packet. Applicants must pass a screening process that includes a criminal background check, DMV report and reference check. A thorough training is provided. The process can take one to two weeks.

Driving records are either unblemished or close to it.
Have a recent model, reliable car that will not be difficult for a senior to get in and out of.
All drivers must show proof of insurance on the vehicle that will be used to transport seniors. Drivers must have the minimum liability required by the State of California.

Time Commitment Needed: 3-4 hours each week for regular shift drivers; on-call, as available drivers also needed.
