The beautiful Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the fourth largest Christian church in the world, on the Upper West Side (Amsterdam Ave and 112 th St) was a second home to Ms. A for a long time before she became too frail to attend by herself.
Ms. A would love to go back to St. John the Divine on Sundays; she misses her religion and the peace it brings her. Ms. A lives just four blocks away from the Cathedral and has a wheelchair, so it is very easy to assist her in travelling. You would meet her at her home and travel to the Cathedral and after the mass travel home with her.
If you are interested in visiting one of the most magnificent and historic Cathedrals in the country while doing a priceless favor to a wonderful woman, please apply to be a volunteer. You do not have to commit to every Sunday, even a couple of Sundays a month would make a tremendous difference.
This opportunity is part of Encore Community Service's Friendly Visiting Program. We ask for a commitment of 6 months, during which time visits take place every week.
There is a short interview and orientation process, as well as a background check.

Description
Encore Community Services is a multi-purpose, not-for-profit, nonsectarian agency serving the needs of poor, frail, homebound, mentally impaired and homeless elderly. Founded in 1977, Encore provides services to more than 14,000 elderly men and women annually. Services include: congregate, home-delivered & weekend meals, shop & escort service, friendly visiting, holiday meals, educational & recreational activities, telephone assurance, health & social services counseling, supportive housing for formerly homeless and mentally impaired eldely. These services are provided at the Encore 49 Residence and Encore Senior Center, located at St. Malachy's, The Actors' Chapel.
