Avalon Hospice is looking for volunteers to visit our patients in their homes and/or facilities in Woobury/Cannon County. Our office operates out of Murfreesboro, TN - we serve patients in Rutherford, Cannon, and Bedford Co.

Our friendly visitors (a.k.a. Direct Patient Care volunteers) provide non-medical support to the hospice team. These volunteers offer a friendly smile and a comforting presence to our patients and their families. They can provide caregiver relief, light housekeeping, light meal preparation, and/or assist with errands- based on patient/family needs and what YOU can provide as a volunteer. All of these kind gestures will mean a lot to our hospice patients and their loved ones. Volunteers are usually assigned at least two patients and visit weekly or biweekly, either in the patient's home or at the facility they reside.

ABOUT AVALON HOSPICE

Avalon Hospice provides compassionate hospice care coupled with clinical excellence. We serve thousands of patients and their families in the communities we partner with. At Avalon Hospice, we are committed to clinical excellence and integrity, ensuring our patients receive the highest quality of hospice care and comfort from each of our agency locations. To maintain this commitment, we hire only the most experienced and capable hospice and home health care professionals. Our clinical team members are experts in pain and symptom management, and our support team members are skilled in the specific issues of emotional support, spiritual counseling, and resource referral.

When Life Matters Most

We see each individual as more than a patient. Our skilled professionals and volunteers design an all-encompassing program, customized to each patient that addresses not only the physical needs but also the emotional and spiritual needs of the patient and family. Counseling and education about disease management and the dying process are provided to the family unit in conjunction with patient care.

Our hospice philosophy includes an individualized course of treatment based on the patient’s wishes, the family’s needs and the complex array of medical, emotional and social issues which accompany a terminal diagnosis. Our service offerings include access to a network of community resources specifically arranged to provide comfort, reduce anxiety and allow quality time to be spent with the loved one.

VOLUNTEERING WITH HOSPICE

The services you will give as a Hospice volunteer will profoundly improve the quality of our patient's lives. Friendly visits enable families to keep their loved ones at home, around the people they love, and the things they love. Assisting with errands helps a tired family cope with their many challenges and allows them time with their loved one. Simply holding a patient's hand can ease their mind and comfort their spirit.

Volunteering takes no advanced medical training or great commitment. It can be as simple as reading to, or spending time with a patient a few hours a week. It is small deeds of kindness that so profoundly enhance the lives of our patients and those who love them.

There are many kinds of Hospice volunteers. Our volunteers include individuals, families, businesses, youth and school groups, civic organizations and churches. Volunteer candidates go through interview and screening processes to ensure the safety of our patients and their families. All hospice volunteers are given assignments that best suit their time, skills and interests.

Our volunteers are thoroughly trained and supported in the skills they need for the volunteer role. Training includes scheduled sessions, individual training and on-site training for groups and organizations. If you are interested in becoming a hospice volunteer or would like more information on volunteering please use the location finder to find an Avalon Hospice agency near you.
