If you live in Brooklyn or travel to Brooklyn on a weekly basis and can commit to one hour a week for at least 6 months, this is the program to be part of! You won’t regret it!
The majority of our seniors live alone without any regular visitors. Having outlived spouses, siblings, friends, and even their own children, they are often extremely isolated. Almost every one of our seniors don't interact with anyone - ever - except the person who we match to visit them.
Our Friendly Visiting program provides much-needed companionship for these homebound elderly in Brooklyn... but we need you!
Visit us at www.friendlyvisitingny.org and find out more or simply enter your info on our site to be contacted. We will meet with you and match you with the senior that is right for you!

Mission Statement
The Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island is a 501(c)(3) private not-for-profit tax-exempt organization founded in 1973 to provide a wide range of social services to South Brooklyn's low income residents and to foster neighborhood stabilization. During the past decade the council has experienced extraordinary growth and became the central address for services of all segments of the population including the aged, the vocationally disadvantaged poor, refugees, and educationally at-risk youth. In addition, the council provides non-profit community based organizations with technical assistance in upgrading their management capacity.
Description
Friendly Visiting, a project of JCCGCI, offers a unique opportunity for a group of volunteers who reach out to homebound individuals. We are a dynamic and diverse group of volunteers or "Friendly Visitors " who visit homebound individuals each week. Every member of our team is willing and eager to share their time with someone who is older, wiser, and has had a lifetime of experience. Our visitors come from all ages and are available to provide companionship, reading assistance (reading mail or a favorite news / magazine article), light grocery shopping, support and more.
