The Carter Burden Center for the Aging (CBCA) is dedicated to supporting the efforts of older people to remain in their homes living independently, safely, and with dignity. Volunteers are an integral component of the Carter Burden Center's 40+ years of success. No matter your age, experience or schedule, CBCA can accommodate your needs to ensure that you have a meaningful and effective volunteer experience.
We're looking for compassionate, patient, and committed people to visit with seniors on a regular basis. The Friendly Visiting program matches volunteers with seniors who share common interests and hobbies for social interaction. Volunteers participate in visits at least twice a month (for 1-2 hours) in a senior's home and may chat, play a game, read a book, take a walk (if the senior is able), or another activity. Seniors are located on the Upper East Side and East Harlem.
The Friendly Visiting program is an on-going opportunity. Time is flexible but we are looking for volunteers available on weekdays (preferably in the afternoons) and weekends.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please email us at: volunteer@carterburdencenter.org

Description
The Carter Burden Network was established in 1971, by New York City Council Member Carter Burden. He represented the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and founded the Center to assist the neighborhood's large number of older residents who were poor, in declining health and isolated.
The Carter Burden Network has grown into an agency with 12 programs in 7 locations and more than 100 employees. Now we serve approximately 5,000 seniors every year across the borough of Manhattan. It is a network of centers, programs and services that work together with government, corporate, individual and community partners to lead the way in aging services in New York City.
CBN offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities to meet your interests. No matter your age, experience or schedule, CBN can accommodate your needs to ensure that you have a meaningful and effective volunteer experience. Opportunities can range from a one-time service day to a long-term volunteer commitment. We welcome individual, community and corporate groups to volunteer with us!
