  • 69 people are interested

The Blackhawk Church Food Pantry Garden is a 2-acre farm where volunteers work to grow produce for local food pantries. The mission of the garden is to make fresh produce accessible to the underprivileged in our community.

Volunteers are guided by a garden team leader in carrying out various tasks, such as planting, weeding and harvesting. No gardening experience is necessary.

There is no shade at the garden. Volunteers should bring a water bottle; a cap/hat, sunscreen and bug spray are also recommended, depending on the time of day one chooses to volunteer. Attire should be appropriate for garden work. Old tennis shoes are recommended for any work sessions following a recent rain. Closed-toed footware is encouraged at all times. Gardening gloves are available for usage at the garden, though volunteers may prefer to bring their own.

Additional work sessions throughout the week can be arraged for groups.

Note: The given end time of this work session may not reflect the actual ending time. The time at which the work session ends varies according to the availability of daylight as well as the weather and mosquito conditions.
