Do you have the knack for comforting people or cheering them up after a bad day. Can you refocus someone or calm them down? If so, this may be of interest.
Vigil Volunteers offer a precious gift in accompanying those who are nearing death and, perhaps, even present at the time of passing. Join our group of caring and compassionate AseraCare volunteers that provide a comforting presence to those patients in the final stages of their disease or to the families and caregivers during this traumatic time.
The goal of vigil volunteering is to ensure that "no patient shall die alone" and they consider it a special privilege to care for people at the end of their lives by providing a comforting and soothing presence.
Schedules are somewhat flexible, training is provided. Contact Shannon Kelley for more info and to get started. Due to covid-19 restrictions, visits are not currently being done. We are on boarding volunteers at this time to be ready for when the Restriction is lifted as facilities are looking to open back up soon.

Description
AseraCare is a family-centered hospice. We provide hospice services to patients and their families in the place they call home - in their apartment or house, assisted living or nursing home. Our services include RN case management, home health aid visits, social work, spiritual care, volunteers, and bereavement support for the families.
Hospice volunteers are needed in St. Joseph's County, Elkhart County, Marshall County, LaGrange, Fulton County and Kosciusko County to provide companionship and emotional support to patients and families according to the patient's plan of care. Hospice patients are individuals with terminal illnesses with a life expectancy of 6 months or less. Volunteer support me be in form of conversation, handholding, simple presence at the bedside, recreational activities, and pet/music therapy. Volunteers have the opportunity to develop on-going relationships with patients and families throughout their illness, or may be involved in short term "vigil" relationships.
