Do you enjoy being with older adults?
Would you like to help an older adult maintain their independence and support their health and well-being?
COMMUNITY VISITING - WITH A FOCUS ON HEALTH AND WELL BEING
As a Community Visitor and Medical Appointment Partner Volunteer, you will meet one-to-one with a carefully-selected older adult client to provide socialization and to support the individual in their health and wellness. A volunteer provides support during and after the client's medical appointment, if requested by the older adult. You will meet with the client and our social worker to create a visiting support plan outlining specific activities intended to help them achieve their goals.
POSSIBLE VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
- Taking notes during medical appointments to support comprehension of information
- Reviewing after care notes
- Help with filling prescriptions or scheduling appointments
- Transporting the older adult to and from medical appointments (additional training provided)
We are looking for individuals who are personable, listen well, and would like to support our older adult population.
Time Expectation: Weekdays; 1-2 hours per week with client
Full training and ongoing supervision is provided.
Because an important relationship develops between the volunteer and client, we ask for a one-year commitment.
