Jill’s House is a full-service, overnight respite center that provides families of children with intellectual disabilities with time to rest, while our staff care for their children in a safe, fun environment that is tailored to their interests and abilities. This 42,000-square foot resort for children (ages 6-17) is located in Vienna, VA and is open to families of all faiths and backgrounds. Additionally, Jill’s House serves families in the Seattle, Nashville, and Chicago areas through local partnerships, with plans for new locations in the coming years. Receiving no direct state or federal funding, Jill’s House was created and is sustained through contributions from individuals and organizational partnerships.

By serving at Jill's House, you will partner with us in our mission to celebrate these special children and to renew their families. Join us today!

Program Volunteer Roles

A Group Buddy’s primary role is to assist his or her assigned Client Care Specialist by engaging with our children with intellectual disabilities. As a group buddy, you will be assigned a group of 2-4 children and will engage them in a variety of activities, from playing with them in the gym or on the playground, to making crafts with them, to reading books with them in the library!

Our Morning Helpers serve during our school-year program and assist staff with making beds and cleaning the living areas after the kids leave for school. Being a morning person is a requirement for this role, since the shift starts bright and early at 7 am!

Being a Pool Helper is a fun way to interact with the children. The heated pool is 2 ½-3 ½ feet deep and wheelchair accessible. You will be in the pool with a certified lifeguard and can engage the children by playing basketball or playing with beach balls.

As a Kitchen Helper, you are responsible for helping to prepare meals and snacks for the children staying at Jill’s House. Due to our children’s many different dietary needs and restrictions, the kitchen is the perfect place for you if you have an eye for detail.

Chapel Helpers help share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in ways our children can easily comprehend. Chapel includes times of prayer, singing, and Bible reading. Chapel helpers must be passionate about their faith in Christ, as well as comfortable interacting directly with children with special needs.

Our Weekend Receptionists are responsible for greeting our families as they either drop off or pick up their children for their weekend stay. The receptionists direct parents to the sign-in sheet and assist with other check-in/check-out responsibilities.

Additional Volunteer Roles

Event Helpers assist at our various Jill’s House events, from our Golf Tournament to our Motorcycle Ride. Event roles may include set-up and tear-down tasks, registration, greeting visitors, helping with auctions, or giving tours.

Administrative Helpers assist the Jill’s House office staff with everything from mailings to data entry, filing to computer work. Organization and attention to detail are key characteristics of an administrative helper. These tasks can be completed at almost any time during our staff’s office hours (Monday-Friday 8 am - 5 pm).

Mission Statement

On a foundation of vibrant faith in Jesus Christ, we live with purposeful excellence, compassionate engagement, and joyful service. We exist to love families toward Jesus and reduce their stress by providing long breaks for families of children with intellectual disabilities. We hope to change the face of disability ministry in America by ensuring that every family of a child with an intellectual disability has respite within reach and a connection to a church that embraces them.

Description

Jill’s House is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to providing support for families (without regard to race, religion or ethnicity) raising children, ages six to seventeen, who have special needs through short-term overnight care and activities allowing respite for their families. We authentically love all children that come to Jill’s House and their families. They inspire others. Their stories impact our lives in the most positive ways, and we strive to impact theirs by providing a safe, fun environment full of adventure and activities made just for them.

Jill’s House is designed around the children, we adjust to them, not them to us. The activities are carefully and strategically planned to meet the child where they are, with the purpose of bringing normalcy to childhood. We provide cozy and comfortable sleeping areas for safe and secure overnight stays, with constant and watchful care.
