Current opening for one volunteer 8 hours per week (can be two half days, M-F).
Boulder County District Attorney's Office needs your help handling various consumer concerns, landlord/tenant disputes, and elder fraud and abuse inquiries that originate by drop-in, phone, email, or mail.
This position requires professional communication skills, objectivity, patience, maturity, imagination, computer skills, and the ability to represent the DA's Office with integrity. Must be able to deal effectively and respectfully with the public. Mediation, human services/housing services background, or general experience as a mature adult are all skills we value.
One year minimum commitment required, (several of our volunteers have been with us for four, five and seven years!)
There are several areas of work done by our volunteers:
Emphasis is on mediating problems between consumers and local Boulder County businesses to help parties move toward solutions out of court, and also providing consumer education (outreach in the community) . Those with expert accounting and investigative experience (Certified Fraud Examiner, etc.) may be selected to work on pending finance/fraud cases.

Description
We recruit and place volunteers and interns in a variety of volunteer positions for Community Justice Services and the District Attorney's (20th Judicial) office in Boulder County . Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing services to crime victims and juvenile and adult offenders. Our volunteer partners are essential in helping us maintain an open and responsive criminal justice system.
What Do Volunteers Do?
Provide support and information to crime victims and witnesses
Be a mentor to high-risk youth who need extra attention
Help people with consumer fraud complaints
Assist with research/data entry on incarceration rates and program outcomes
Teach ESL, HSE and life skills classes to incarcerated community members
