The Institute of International Education (IIE) advances citizen diplomacy by providing professional, cultural and educational meetings between emerging foreign leaders and the San Francisco Bay Area community, primarily in partnership with the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). These emerging foreign leaders are selected by our American embassies overseas and travel to the United States under the auspices of the U.S. State Department. Among the prestigious alumni are more than 1,500 cabinet ministers and 200 current and former heads of state, including Margaret Thatcher, Anwar Sadat, Indira Gandhi and Tony Blair. The volunteers in San Francisco and around the nation who contribute their time and energy to the International Visitor Leadership Program were collectively nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001.
POSITION TITLE: Resource Volunteer, International Visitor Leadership Division
IIE plans professional programs for approximately 1100-1500 visitors annually. Resource Volunteers support the IVLP Division Program Director during the research and proposal phase helping to create comprehensive professional resource proposals to bid on new IVLP projects from the Department of State and National Program Agencies. Resource Volunteers are also responsible for updating and confirming the accuracy of resource reference lists, contacts, and professional meeting notes; they play a key role in preserving the integrity of our program operations and contribute significantly to the IVLP division at IIE WCC.
TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum 6 hours a week
Minimum Duration: 3 months
DUTIES: Conduct program specific research & analysis in connection with creating Professional Resource Proposals that will be submitted to the Department of State with bids for upcoming IVLP projects:
- Assist Program Director in identifying appropriate program resources for local professional programs
- Building relationships with potential community resources by arranging meetings and attending events
- Track and analyze programmatic trends and resource needs
- Assist with professional programming initiatives and research
- Assist with Database Management
We are looking for creative, articulate and dependable candidates with excellent communication skills in English and a strong interest in international relations and knowledge of Bay Area resources. Candidates should be comfortable working independently and with a team, and have basic organization and computer application skills. All IIE internship/volunteer positions are unpaid.
