ORGANIZATION: Transportation Alternatives

Help Transportation Alternative promote bicycling, and see a great outdoor movie at the same time. We'll be providing Valet Bike Parking for "Movies with a View", an outdoor series of films courtesy of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. Valet bike parking is a great way to encourage cycling and help the environment. Volunteers will be treated to food and beverages while we watch the film and guard the bike parking area. It's from 6pm-10:30pm on Thursday, September 21st in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The movie night is actually a double-feature of Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Transportation Alternatives is a 5000-member NYC-area non-profit citizens group working for better bicycling, walking and public transit, and fewer cars. We work for safer, calmer neighborhood streets and car-free parks.

About Transportation Alternatives

Location:

127 W 26th St #1002, New York, NY 10001, US

Mission Statement

Reclaim New York City's streets from the automobile and promote bicycling, walking and public transit as better transportation alternatives.

Description

With 100,000 active supporters and a committee of activists working locally in every borough, TransAlt fights for the installation of infrastructure improvements that reduce speeding and traffic crashes, save lives and improve everyday transportation for all New Yorkers.

Since our founding in 1973, T.A. has paved the way for remarkable changes in New York City’s transportation infrastructure: the extraordinary growth of bicycling, the launch of Citi Bike and the introduction of innovations to city streets, like Complete Streets, parking-protected bike lanes, automated speed enforcement cameras, public plazas, Select Bus Service and Neighborhood Slow Zones, and much more.

Right now, Transportation Alternatives activists are leading the fight to improve infrastructure for bicycling and walking on scores of local streets and to change traffic enforcement policy and practices citywide. The goal is to achieve Vision Zero -- the elimination of traffic deaths and serious injuries on New York City’s streets.
