Mission Statement

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. It does this through servcies that are consistent with its congressional charter and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Description

To support the mission of the American Red Cross, nearly 1.5 million paid and volunteer staff serve in chapters and blood centers throughout the United States and its territories and on military installations around the world. Supported by the resources of a national organization, they form the largest volunteer service and educational force in the nation. They help people prevent, prepare for, and cope with emergencies, whether those emergencies involve blood, disasters, tissue transplants, social services, or health and safety. All of these essential servcies are made possible by the voluntary servcies, blood and tissue donations, and financial support of the American people.
