Description

The purpose for which The Blackwater Creek Association is organized is to promote the cultural, architectural, historical, and natural heritage of the environs of Lynchburg s Blackwater Creek, Upper and Lower Canal Basins, and James River. This purpose shall be met by methods including, but not limited to: preservation of extant structures of architectural significance, development of educational programs relating to the heritage of the area, and completion of conservation projects aimed at improving the environment and public awareness of the vicinity. Through its co-ed youth program, Venturing Crew 1776, the BCA has "adopted" a significant section of Blackwater Creek through the Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation's Adopt-A-Stream program. More than two miles of the Blackwater Creek Trail system has also been adopted through a similar program offered by Lynchburg Parks & Recreation. The Blackwater Creek Association also sponsors the Batteau Blackwater in the annual James River Batteau Festival.
