I am a parent and a former educator of 19 years. I put my son in this program with the hopes that he would benefit from the reading and math instruction. After reviewing his work and realizing the majority of the staff are students themselves, they were not on top of the children as far as grammar, spelling and proper sentence structure. In the area of math there was no real learning in showing my son how to use strategic approaches in acquiring the techniques you need to know now in the public school. For the exception of the lead certified teacher Ms. Churbo and her assistant Ms. Sara they were dedicated in helping my son and the rest of the children. If you are looking to volunteer in a educational program I would not recommend this program. There are many others in the lower east side that need volunteers that can learn the foundations and the kraft of education. Lastly, my son conveyed to me that he felt segregated from the rest of the class when meals and games were provided.
