Holiday Impact
Join Us in Fighting Hunger Over the Holidays
Especially this time of year, the difference between those that do and do not have to worry about their next meal is in stark relief. So this year VolunteerMatch is dedicating our end of year messaging during December to this critical issue, and harnessing the power of our networks to fight hunger.

And we want you to join us.

No matter your mission, you and your organization can make a difference for the tens of millions of people struggling with hunger in the U.S. VolunteerMatch is providing special tools, trainings and resources to help nonprofits engage volunteers in hunger-related causes this holiday season and beyond.

Engaging Pro Bono
Evolve Your Nonprofit for High Impact Volunteers
In conjunction with the National Pro Bono Celebration, we conducted a five-part exploration of best practices in pro bono volunteer engagement through the lens of the experts at Taproot Foundation and their newly released book, "Powered by Pro Bono."

Join VolunteerMatch VP of Communications & Marketing Robert Rosenthal as he dives into the meat of the book, taking you through the four stages of becoming an organization powered by pro bono volunteerism: Scoping, Securing, Managing and Scaling.

Check out Robert's 5-part "Powered by Pro Bono" series on the blog.

5 Ways to Create Better Hunger Opportunities
For the entire month of December, VolunteerMatch has pledged to spread awareness for hunger related causes. So for this month Matt Wallace, Senior Associate of Nonprofit Relations, took look at a successful hunger-related opportunity from St. Mary?s Food Bank Alliance in Phoenix, Ariz.

Matt illustrates what works, what doesn't, and how you can use similar strategies when creating your own hunger-related volunteer opportunities.

Nonprofit Spotlight
Jennifer Gonzales, St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance
When Jennifer Gonzales decided to switch jobs, she knew exactly what she was looking for. She already had five years of experience working with and leading volunteers, and this time she wanted to focus on just working with volunteers. She wanted to stay in the nonprofit sector and work for a well-known organization. Above all, she wanted to make a difference.

When she saw the job description for Volunteer Services at St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance, "I just knew it was the position for me," she says.

It wasn't until after she got the job and started her work, though, that she realized she wouldn't just be making a difference for the thousands of hungry people St. Mary's helps, but for the volunteers in her program, as well.
